I’ve seen this picture reblogged a few times, and every time, it makes me SO MAD. All this says to me, as a nerd girl and sometimes gamer, is, “I’m just as judgmental as all those people I say I’m exactly unlike, and assume that ANY NERD GIRL who is comfortable with her sexuality and wants to model naked with her nerdy stuff can’t actually be a nerd.”
So let’s be honest about what this really is: slut-shaming. This degrades women who are okay with their sexuality and want to model naked. This degrades women who have the body for it and want to wear that itty bitty strap of spandex that matches the costume of that superhero perfectly. This is bullying. You would think that the community who considers themselves the most picked on, most bullied, most singled out, would take the time to think that 1) they are no longer the minority, and 2) they have just become the bully.
Your opinion means less to me than dirt. Knowing some of the girls, who model on GodsGirls, SuicideGirls, Tumblr, and THE REST OF THE FUCKING INTERNET, and who are bigger fans of Batman, Doctor Who, Nintendo, Final Fantasy, Farscape, &c. than I ever could dream of being (and you, too, for that matter); of the nerdy/geeky booth babes who get groped, harassed, and mistreated because they made a conscious career move to wear tight clothing and short skirts; of the girls in tiny costumes at cons who get groped; being a girl at a con WHO WAS IN JEANS AND A T-SHIRT AND STILL GOT MY ASS GRABBED BY SOME GUY WHO DIDN’T EVEN SAY “HELLO” AT AN UNCROWDED DANCE, this offends me to no end. This goes along with the idea that, “Well, she was asking for it.”
I’m not saying I pose naked with my comic books. But if I wanted to do a themed nude photoshoot, I’d do it with something I had on hand. Things I have: comics, video games, all the stuff I’ve sewn (except the costumes that got ruined).
So seriously, fuck you. Nerds can be naked, too.
Nerds can be naked too.
